Let Your Students Experience the Word and Western Culture

The Greeks and the Romans have been teaching us for thousands of years, and they continue to teach us even today. More importantly, these two cultures teach us how to read the New Testament in its context. When visiting Greece and Italy and understanding the culture of the first century, Scripture will come alive for you and your school in ways that are unexpected, but will last a lifetime. You can follow in the footsteps of Paul’s second missionary journey, tracing his path from Neapolis to Philippi, on to Thessalonica and Berea, to Athens and Corinth. Or you can visit Rome, studying the book of Romans in its context and remembering Paul’s final sacrifice where he completed his race. Along the way you’ll also study the classics, visiting the Oracle of Delphi, reciting Aeschylus’ Agamemnon in Mycenae, debating the Peleponnesian War in Sparta, and burying (not praising) Julius Caesar at his tomb in Rome’s Forum.

Along the way Footstep Ministries will be providing expert teaching with a single dedicated leader, weaving a complete teaching narrative through each site and across each tour. Our leaders are passionate about Greece and Italy, and with their years of teaching experience will provide a dynamic experience for your school. And with hotels in the hearts of their cities, you’ll get to experience the life of locals as we walk through modern and ancient places, eating gyro or panini in the shadow of ruins. This is a cultural experience that can't be found in the classroom, and a curated journey that will never be forgotten.

14 Day Greece Tour - Studying Paul in Context

On this fourteen day journey, your students will combine a study of the Apostle Paul with an understanding of the Classics that have shaped cuture for centuries. They will have the opportunity to study the sculptures of the Parthenon, swim in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean Sea, haggle in a bustling outdoor marketplace, hike on Mt. Olympus, sit in the theater where drama and comedy were born, enjoy authentic Greek cuisine at local tavernas, question the Oracle of Delphi, explore a 600 year old Greek Orthodox Monastery, and fall in love with a land that has inspired the world since the dawn of history. This journey will highlight how the Apostle Paul brought the Gospel to a people unfamiliar with Christ, revealing Him in a new way, making known the unknown. In the same way, your students will learn how to bring the good news of Jesus to the modern world around them.

10 Day Italy - Romans and the Renaissance

The eternal city of Rome beckons us with insight both cultural and spiritual as we study Paul’s letter to the Romans through the lens of the Renaissance. This ten day tour of Italy will have students face to face with the glory of Rome, from the Colisseum to the Pantheon to the Circus Maximus. What better place to ponder civilizations that have come and gone than in the ruins of a Roman bath at Ostia Antica? We will also trace the history of the church, from its earliest days hidden in the catacombs beneath the city to the medieval church, from the glorious cathedrals of the Renaissance to the modern church. We will end our journey in Tuscany, spending time in Florence and marveling at the architecture and art of generations gone by. All the while we’ll be enjoying authentic pizza, pasta, and panini as we appreciate all that Italian culture has to offer.

Our Travel Philosophy

At Footstep Ministries our goal is to work with the school to provide a customized tour that meets your teaching goals. Because we specialize in fewer countries, we’re able to tailor an itinerary that sees the sites and teaches the lessons your school desires. Along the way you’ll work with a single leader who will both work with you in preparation and lead you on the tour itself - no handoffs! And whether you’re a classical school looking to focus on Roman oratory or a Christian school delving into Paul’s letters, we’re equipped to meet your pedagogical needs.

We'll also show them the hospitality that Greece and Italy are so well known for. With all meals included and hand-picked you’ll get a true taste of what each country has to offer. Our hotels are perfectly located in safe, walkable neighborhoods that will allow the group to truly experience the Mediterranean lifestyle. And the tour pacing will allow us to reflect on the things we’re learning instead of racing from one site to the next. But most imporantly, we also take moments for prayer and reflection as we allow God's Word to come to life.

FIND OUT WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT OUR TOURS

“For the past two years, I’ve had the previously unimaginable experience of traveling to Greece “in the footsteps of Paul” with the good folks at Footstep Ministries. Space and time don’t permit me here, but I could tell you hours of stories of what we’ve seen and experienced and the formative impact it's had on me. Baptizing a student at Philippi, standing before the bema where Paul would’ve stood in Philippi and Corinth, ascending the medieval monastery complex at Meteora, hiking up Mt. Olympus (get in shape first!), and concluding the trip atop Mars Hill and the Parthenon and Athens… to say nothing of the food and fellowship. Footstep Ministries knows how to plan and lead a trip where your students will encounter one sublime delight after another, balancing learning, activity, and wonder-inducing experiences in a trip they’ll never forget. Can’t recommend highly enough.”

— Mathew Beatty, Head of School, Bloomfield Christian School

“Traveling with Footstep Ministries through Greece was truly the experience of a lifetime. My group and I felt cared for at all times, the itinerary was perfect, and the relationships we developed with the staff quickly became friendships. Walking in the footsteps of St. Paul from Thessaloniki to Berea to Corinth to Athens was transcendent, and having the privilege of baptizing a student at Philippi was an incomparable blessing. Along the way, we were able to visit astonishing classical sites and museums, culminating with the Parthenon, that completed our experience of Greece’s amazing history and inheritance. One of the best facets of the trip was the delectable food, the table fellowship, walking the streets of the cities and towns, and interacting with the wonderful people of Greece -- more than a mere tour, it was very much a memorable immersion in Greece’s vibrant culture. I consider the wonderful folks at Footstep Ministries to be valuable partners in the ministry of our classical Christian school. Not just 5 stars -- I'd give them a hundred stars if I could!”
